When are my taxes due?

Summer taxes and 1% administrative fee are due on August 15. Payment of tax without penalty must be received prior to close of business (5:00 PM). If August 15, falls on a Saturday or Sunday the tax is due on the following Monday. NO EXCEPTIONS ARE MADE FOR POSTMARKS OR CHECK DATES. After 5 PM on the due date, a 4% penalty fee will be added to the tax bill. YOUR CHECK MUST CLEAR or payment is considered void.
Winter taxes and 1% administrative fee are due on February 14. Payment of tax without penalty must be received prior to close of business (5:00 PM). If February 14, falls on a Saturday or Sunday the tax is due on the following Monday.

For your convenience if you need to drop a payment off after regular office hours, there is a drop box by the front door of City Hall

The City is not able to accept partial payments on taxes. Senior citizens (age 65 and annual income under $20,000) are eligible for tax deferment (a later due date) the forms are on file with the city treasurer for the current tax year. These forms must be renewed every year.

All Personal Property taxes are payable to "City of Plainwell" at City Hall. For those of you that are going or have gone out of business, it is recommended that you contact the city assessor at 685-6821 to take your name off the tax roll for personal property taxes at that address or you will continue to accrue tax bills until the records are changed.

When buying a residence, please be sure to complete and submit your Homestead Property Tax Affidavit and/or Property Transfer Affidavit in order to receive your Homestead Tax Exemption. These forms should be completed at the time of closing but extra affidavits are available on the download page. Please call if you have any questions or want to confirm that your Affidavits were filed.
